One of the series of Shetland Treasures, this is the unframed original of the Sanderling painting, in acrylic on board.  My fantasy of how the St Ninian's Treasure was found is shown in 4 separate paintings where some of my favourite birds are finding Pictish silver bowls, brooches and amulets in the sea and on beaches.  Of course the St Ninian's treasure was actually found on St Ninian's Isle by a 14 year old boy who'd been hanging around a group of archaeologists and ended up being the one to actually discover the treasure.  This happened back in the '50s and the actual treasure is kept in the Edinburgh museum, but we do have a set of replicas in the Shetland Museum in Lerwick   - well worth a visit.
