Welcome to the 2020 Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary Art Competition.  The theme for the this year for both adult and junior competitions is "Our Precious World"  which can cover a whole range of concerns including wildlife, conservations, climate change, or just the beauty of the world we live in.  Below are forms for the Adult or Junior competition which you are welcome to download, complete and return to us as per the instructions.  Entries for the adult competition are accepted from anywhere in the world if you agree to make and donate a small artwork 8 x 8" square (including frame if any). This must not be signed or initialled on the front as it will be part of an anonymous exhibition with all original artworks being on sale at £45 with proceeds divided between the Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary in Shetland and the Shetland MRI Scanner Appeal, both very important to the wellbeing of the people and wildlife of our islands.  The artwork can be in any medium as long as it can be wall-hung and is an original piece not exhibited or published before.  Entries are welcomed from professional and amateur artists in any discipline but no photography or prints, unless they are one off handmade prints. Full terms and conditions, the deadline and address for delivery or posting are all included in the attachments below. There is a fee for each entry of £5 adults and £2 children, which will go towards the expenses of running the exhibition, room hire, etc, but any surplus will also go into the shared fundraising.

The junior competition will go out to Shetland schools but individual entries from children are also accepted by post.  The competition is divided into three age groups 5-8, 9-12 and 13-16, but all have the same theme of designing a t-shirt - instructions and further information on the form below. Please note all designs have to be in by 3rd April to give time to process, hang and judge the entries.

An independent panel of judges will take the final decisions on winners and runners-up in all competitions, and the prizegiving will be on Sunday 19th April at 2.00 in Room 12, Islesburgh Community Centre.  The exhibition will continue to the end of April when details are given for anyone wanting to collect their children's artwork, or unsold adults' entries.

We hope to announce some great prizes very soon but already LHD have generously agreed to print t-shirts for all the children's winners and runners-up based on their own design in a size to fit them.  Vouchers will be handed out at the prizegiving so t-shirts can be collected once printed.

We are also looking for sponsors for the whole event and particularly for prizes for the adult competition.  Please share details of the event to anyone who might wish to take part in any way, and contact Anne Barron on 07713985081 or fill in the Contact form on this website if you require any further information or can help in any way. Please click on the appropriate button below to download forms but, should you have any difficulty in doing that, send an email to wildaboutart@yahoo.co.uk and I will return an email with the forms attached.
