BIOGRAPHY - Anne Barron

I spent most of my life as a secretary but took up painting more seriously whewe were n my daughter was growing up and making her own social life.  By that time living in Sheffield where I not only started my life as a working artist but also became involved in the administration of some prestigious events such as the Great Sheffield Art Show and was one of the three founders of the wonderful Art In The Gardens in Sheffield's restored botanical gardens and glasshouses.

Now moved to Shetland, my senses are on overload being constantly bombarded by amazing wildlife, beautiful scenery and incredible light, which naturally inspires me to branch out into land and seascapes. Having just built a new little studio inside our garage building, I am looking forward to having a chance to work on larger scale artworks and being a little more experimental as I have decided to take a break from commission work, after 30 years of working for happy clients.

A juried member of Artists For Conservation (an online gallery for artists recognised for their work in raising awareness of wildlife conservation and ecology), animals and the environment have always been a passion of mine. Also a Professional Associate of the Society For All Artists, I enjoy sharing my art with others, teaching one to one at my home / studio in Burra as well as co-ordinating the Fine Art Shetland Group and the newly formed Wild About Art Group which evolved from the Club I have been running since coming to live in Shetland in 2007.

ANIMALS

Animals, and wildlife conservation, have been an important inspiration for my art - my earliest drawings were of animals, and I have spent 30 years taking commissions for portraits of animals and people, with hundreds of happy clients.  However I am taking a break from commissions but these images are now available as prints and cards, which can be ordered by following my Redbubble link at the bottom of each page, or by contacting me directly.

I was co-founder of the Wild about Art Wildlife Exhibitions in Sheffield with my colleague and fellow artist Irene Nixon, when we attracted some of the top wildlife artists in the UK including two of the best who are sadly no longer with us, the iconic  David Shepherd and wonderful Pollyanna Pickering.  The exhibitions raised over £20,000 for various wildlife charities, of which I'm very proud, but I continue to support wildlife charities including a small but vital local charity in Shetland who rehabilitate injured sea mammals and birds - the Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary, and donations from my sales go regularly to them.

Most of these images are available as blank greetings cards, as  prints on paper, and in some case, canvas and as mugs, and other merchandise from my Redbubble pages.  Click on the Redbubble link at the top of the page.  Please note all images are copyright of Anne Barron.

Portraits

I have painted and drawn portraits all my life and some below are examples of past commissions, or, in some cases such as the snooker players, were made specially for a particular exhibition or event.  The World Championship Snooker competition at the Crucible in Sheffield saw myself and various colleagues invited to have an exhibition two years running as part of the event.  It was great fun and we met many of the stars of the sport and commentators, and our work was popular with the players themselves and with the public. These are now available only as prints and cards, which can be ordered by following my Redbubble link at the bottom of each page.  Alternatively you can order artwork  via the Contact page

Kimberley

One of a series of images I painted of some gorgeous young women who worked at the same hair salon where I had my hair done. I started with Louisa who gave me her "theme" but for the others I tried to match their personality with a style of painting (as I saw them). This Kimberley who I felt was perfect for a classical and romantic Pre-Raphaelite style, as per Dante Gabrielle Rosetti.
